Why Refurbished Electronics Are Going Mainstream

Certified refurbished is no longer the second-best option. Better testing, real warranties and climate-aware buyers are changing the market.
Not long ago, "refurbished" suggested a gamble. In 2026 it increasingly suggests a smart buy. The global market for refurbished phones and electronics has grown steadily, and both consumers and businesses now treat it as a normal channel.
What changed
- Standardised grading and multi-point functional testing
- Warranties that match or rival new products
- Right-to-repair policies improving access to parts and manuals
- Buyers counting embodied carbon, not just price
The carbon maths
For most personal electronics, the largest share of lifetime emissions comes from manufacturing, before the device is ever switched on. Extending the life of a device that already exists avoids much of that footprint. In practice, the greenest device is often one that is already out there.
What to look for
Ask how the device was tested, what the warranty covers and how the cosmetic grade is defined. At Ohmni, every refurbished unit is 100% function-tested and backed by a warranty. If we would not use it ourselves, it does not ship.
